GIPL has a variety of films in our lending library that can help spark conversation about environmental issues and the role of faith communities in addressing them. You can borrow these films for a self-led discussion (we even have materials to start you off), or a GIPL faculty member can come present it and lead a conversation.

This award winning documentary by Jeff Barrie traces how energy is generated in the Southeast, the negative effects of this on our lifestyle and practical solutions to reducing our dependence on coal burning energy generation. This is a good kick off for a Sunday school series and may be accompanied by a panel discussion. Good for use with middle-to-high school age and above. This inspiring documentary tells the stories of 8 different organizations or communities that are bringing their faith to bear on environmental issues. The film can be watched as a single feature, or each story can be watched and discussed individually. Study resources are available and this makes a wonderful tool for a Sunday school or class series.
Fighting Goliath 34 minutes, DVD
This film follows the story of Texans fighting a high-stakes battle for clean air. The film introduces the unlikely partners-mayors, ranchers, CEOs, community groups, legislators, lawyers, and people of faith – that have come together to oppose the construction of 19 conventional coal-fired power plants that were slated to be built in Eastern and Central Texas and that were being fast-tracked by the Governor. Study resources are available and Interfaith Power & Light has free copies for congregations that wish to host a screening. These exclusive copies also include Covenant, a 5 min. addition that details the faith community involvement.
An Inconvenient Truth 96 minutes, DVD
This film version of former Vice President Al Gore's compelling slide show about climate change lays out the evidence for global warming and talks about what we must do to address it. Not sure? This is a dramatic film about climate change that sweeps around the world to reveal how a changing climate is affecting the lives of people everywhere. It includes hard-hitting comments from scientists and opinion-makers about America’s lack of leadership in what is certainly the most critical environmental issue of the 21st century, as well as new scenes documenting the emerging voice of the American Evangelical community urging action on climate change.
