Energy Improvement Matching Grants

Any congregation or faith-based community (including faith-based schools) that has received a Power Wise Energy Audit is eligible to apply for up to $10,000 in Matching Grants to implement the Energy Conservation Measures suggested in their Energy Audit Reports.

This program, which is made possible by the generous support of the Kendeda Foundation, helps congregations make energy efficiency improvements that would otherwise be cost-prohibitive. See below for a number of projects that have been funded in the past.

Sixteen congregations and one Jewish school received a total of $109,440 in May 2011:

Congregation Etz Chaim - $11,715 for reinsulation of the education & administration buildings and the kitchen
Congregation Or Ve Shalom - $12,500 for direct digitals controls
Emory Presbyterian Church - $13,500 for engineering design costs
Episcopal Church of the Advent - $5,000 for foam insulation in the church building
Episcopal Church of the Nativity - $2,480 for duct work repair
First Existentialist Congregation of Atlanta - $1,250 for attic insulation
Georgia Mountains Unitarian Universalist Church - $379 for programmable thermostats
Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church - $14,480 for attic insulation for the church school building
Hillside Presbyterian Church - $11,508 for attic insulation in the classroom building and church offices and design costs
Norcross First United Methodist Church - $12,150 for foam insulation in the Old Wing and Fellowship Hall and blown insulation in the Chapel
Park Avenue Baptist Church - $950 for blown-in insulation in the Parsonage and HVAC coil cleaning
Rehoboth Presbyterian Church - $2,778 for HVAC upgrade & lighting upgrade
St. Francis Episcopal Church - $2,000 for window upgrade in office annex
St. Paul's Episcopal Church - $7,750 for blown-in attic insulation in the Sanctuary and Parish
Temple Sinai - $3,725 for direct digitals controls
Virginia-Highland Church - $7,275 for attic insulation in the sanctuary and design costs

Projects Funded in November 2010

Six congregations received a total of $52,064 in November 2010:

St. Francis Episcopal Church in Macon: $3,637 for 24 Energy Star, double-pane windows.

St. Bede's Episcopal Church in Atlanta: $6,037 to retrofit 160 four-bulb (T-12s) fluorescent light fixtures with T-8 bulbs.

Princeton United Methodist Church in Athens: $24,025 for attic insulation, direct digital controls for energy management, upgrading three HVAC units, adding another ceiling supply diffuser to improve airflow, lighting upgrades, and installing condensate traps on their HVAC units.

Emory Presbyterian Church in Atlanta: $14,200 to upgrade HVAC from EER 11 to EER 12.7, repair 15 leaking steam traps, and install direct digital controls.

First African Baptist Church in Savannah: $1,975 to install attic insulation.

Berea Mennonite Church in Atlanta: $2,190 to upgrade attic insulation to a R30 value and install LED exit signs.

Projects Funded in May 2010

Eight congregations received a total of $42,870 in May 2010:

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Tucker: $5,000 for lighting upgrade in educational building.

Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church in Savannah: $3,300 for lighting upgrades and motion detectors.

Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta: $9,063 for lighting upgrades in the Campbell Egan Building, the kitchen and the Oglesby Building.

St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Monroe: $6,140 to clean heating and cooling ducts and add a new return duct. Grant will also cover portion of new Energy Star® compliant HVAC systems in the sanctuary and narthex.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in Atlanta: $5,250 for a boiler upgrade.

Canon Church of God in Canon: $2,500 for window upgrades in the parsonage and upgrading to several Energy Star® kitchen appliances.

First African Presbyterian Church in Lithonia: $5,240 for an HVAC upgrade and installing programmable thermostats.

St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Atlanta: $6,377 for an LED lighting upgrade.
