Holiday Green Tips
Don't miss our 2010 Green Gift Guide and many other tips on going green this holiday season.
Donate today to Georgia Interfaith Power & Light, and your gift will be matched dollar for dollar by a private donor.
Dear GIPL Supporter,
After a slow start, winter has finally arrived. We hope that you are staying warm this holiday season. Thank you so much to everyone that has already contributed to our $50,000 Challenge Campaign. We really appreciate your support, and if you haven’t given yet, check out our giving page.
Our Power Wise program has kicked into full gear, and we are excited to report our progress. If you remember, Power Wise provides low-cost Energy Audits to congregations across the state.
Power Wise Update
Our Power Wise program is only eight months old, but it has already received attention from Georgia congregations, the media, IPLs across the nation, and the state and federal government. It is a model for providing energy conservation support to the faith-community.
GIPL’s professional Energy Auditor, Gary Gabriel of CDH Partners, has completed 26 Energy Audits, and more than 80 other congregations are in the pipeline. For those in the pipeline, get us your information so we can schedule your Energy Audit. If you aren’t in the pipeline, what’s going on?
For a more thorough update of Power Wise, check out yesterday’s blog by Bob Donaghue, our Power Wise Program Director.
November Grants Awarded
In the past year, we’ve awarded over $94,000 to congregations for energy efficiency upgrades through our Energy Improvement Matching Grant Program. Last week, our Grants Committee reviewed applications for our November grants cycle. Congregations can apply for up to $25,000 in Matching Grant funds. In this cycle, award amounts ranged from $1,975 to $24,025.
These grants will fund a wide variety of projects including attic insulation and HVAC system upgrades. Be on the lookout for details about each grant recipient on our blog over the next few months, or click here to read about the grants we gave out during the May 2010 grant cycle.
If you missed our November 15 deadline, mark your calendar for our next deadline on May 15, 2011. Congregations must receive a Power Wise Energy Audit in order to qualify for an Energy Improvement Matching Grant.
Home Energy Audit Training Class
Power Wise congregations can also take advantage of a Home Energy Audit Training Class provided by GIPL staff. This class will help your congregation members learn how to cut their home energy bills. GIPL recently provided this training at the Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Southwest Atlanta.
Over twenty people from eight different churches attended the Home Energy Audit Training Class at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, a church that is well known for its strong community outreach and social programs under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Gerald L. Durley. To read more about this training, check out our blog.
We are blessed to have the support of individuals and congregations across the state. We are grateful for those that have given so far in response to our $50,000 Challenge Campaign. Thank you for all of your support.
Peace & Light,
Alexis Chase, Executive Director
