For those who know me, they know that I watch a lot of the Discovery Channel. My favorite moment on the Discovery Channel was the Discovery Channel commercial, “The world is just awesome, boom de addah”.  Watch it here. The song in the commercial goes: “I love the mountains, I love the clear blue skies, I love big bridges, I love when great whites fly, I love the whole world and all its sights and sounds. Boom De adda". During the commercial the screen flashes over the ocean, a Buddhist monastery, the mountains, the plains, a jungle and other magnificent parts of creation. At the end of the commercial the screen flashes on a crowd gathered on the beach, singing and the screen says “The World is Just Awesome”.

The world is just awesome and sometimes it is not easy to remember. There is a lot wrong with creation; climate volatility, global warming, environmental degradation, oil disasters, whatever you call what’s happening. But I listen to this commercial and look back at Psalm 19 and they both remind me why I do what I do. Caring for Creation is hard work and when I walk into a hesitant faith community unsure if they should listen when I talk about our responsibility as people of faith to care for creation; I read this Psalm or listen to this commercial and am reminded that all of the firmament, all of the earth, all of creation, all of us, we are just awesome. And no matter how we got in this hand-basket and no matter where we are going, creation is awesome and everyday we should find a way to remember that. We should remember to keep working and keep trying, because all of it declares the glory. All of it is singing a song of praise.
