Success Stories

We've completed over 60 Energy Audits through our Power Wise program since July 2010, with a projected energy savings of 20% for participating congregations. Energy efficiency works, we promise! Check out some of our success stories below for proof.

Energy Savings

St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Atlanta reduced their energy bills by 15% after receiving an Energy Audit and Matching Grants, and won a GIPPY Award for work in energy efficiency.
Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta saved $40,000 on their energy bills last year, as reported in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
St. Alban's Episcopal Church, a small congregation in Monroe, received one of only five national awards for energy savings from the EPA. Rev. Brent Owens states, "For a church our size, an overall saving of $1800 a year can balance a budget or help support a new program."

Grants Awarded

In November 2010, we awarded $52,064 to six congregations. One recipient, the historic First African Baptist Church in Savannah, will save over $1,000 a year on their energy bills by adding attic insulation.
In May 2010, we awarded $42,870 to eight congregations. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School received $5,250 toward a boiler upgrade, which is estimated to decrease their operating costs by 40%.

Power Wise Timeline

July 2010: North Springs United Methodist Church receives the first Power Wise Energy Audit.
November 2010: Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta hosts the first Home Energy Audit Training Class.
December 2010: GIPL partners with the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta to provide additional funds for Jewish congregations.
May 2011: Founder of national IPL network, Rev. Canon Sally Bingham, attends Energy Audit during her visit to Georgia.
November 15, 2011: The next deadline for our Energy Improvement Matching Grants.
