As your congregation becomes involved in Power Lite, we ask that you sign a congregational covenant to formalize your commitment to stewardship of creation and to become full members of Georgia Interfaith Power & Light.
The Congregational Covenant describes GIPL’s commitment to your congregation including our pledge to provide: educational and worship resources appropriate for congregational and home use; opportunities to gather with other like-minded congregations and/or individuals; analysis of public policy issues related to power efficiency; the GIPL Newsletter; and our commitment to guide you through developing an action plan for your congregation.
The Covenant also details the responsibilities of your congregation, including your commitment to care of creation as a demonstration of faithful stewardship. It also asks the congregation to commit to participating in actions vital to creation stewardship and the mission of GIPL, including education programs for congregants, energy efficiency measures within congregational buildings, support for public policies that encourage responsible energy generation and use, and setting goals for congregant participation in energy efficiency.
Individual Covenant
Individual Covenants are a way to help your congregation members decide upon particular actions they wish to take to demonstrate their care for creation. These can be used as part of your larger Power Lite campaign not only to educate congregants about what they can do to be better stewards of the environment, but also as a way to track the actions taking place within your congregation to help in setting goals for becoming a carbon-neutral congregation.
You may use the GIPL Individual Covenant cards as is, or we can help you develop cards that reflect the focus and goals of your congregation’s Power Lite program. These covenants may also be used as pledge cards in creation stewardship campaigns run in conjunction with financial stewardship campaigns.
The Individual Covenant asks congregants to commit to one or more actions that demonstrate good stewardship of creation including a home energy audit, use of compact fluorescent light bulbs, education, responsible driving practices, purchase of energy efficient appliances, and other steps that will help reduce carbon emissions
