Cobb County Coal Ash Forum

July 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Concerned about coal ash? Or, are you asking yourself, “what is coal ash?” Join GIPL for a conversation about coal ash storage and disposal in Georgia, centering around Cobb County’s Plant McDonough.  Co-sponsored by Georgia Water Coalition, Environment Georgia, GIPL, and Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, participants will have the opportunity to see coal ash in person and learn about the impact of coal ash runoff on all Creation.

Water is a sacred gift given for our life, health, growth, and enjoyment. Yet, right now in Georgia, coal ash looms as a significant threat to our clean water. Coal ash is the waste left after burning coal for electricity, and it contains toxins like arsenic, mercury, lead, and other heavy metals. While the EPA does not classify coal ash as “hazardous,” we know that coal ash exposure contributes to increased risk of countless health problems.  Learn more about The Problem with Coal Ash.

This event is free and open to the public.
