Good Jobs, Green Jobs - Thursday, February 23, 2012

What is the potential for wind energy and job creation in the Southeast? Can recycling create good jobs? How can we finance transportation projects to make our systems more modern and efficient? At Good Jobs, Green Jobs South � February 23 and 24 in Atlanta, GA at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta � we will explore the unique challenges and opportunities to creating good, green jobs in the Southern United States.

While in the past we have held one National Conference, this year we are bringing the Good Jobs, Green Jobs Conference to four cities throughout the country in order to allow people to participate in this important discussion of how we will build a green economy that creates good jobs, reduces global warming and preserves America's environmental and economic security.

The first of these conferences, Good Jobs, Green Jobs South in Atlanta will foster discussion of how we will build a green economy that creates good jobs, reduces global warming and preserves America's environmental and economic security. The conference will feature more than 40 workshops:

Dirt Wise - Wednesday, February 29, 2012

St. Alban's Episcopal Church is hosting five sessions of Dirt Wise: A Gardening Guide for Congregations.

The garden curriculum designed to help congregations start a garden while you learn about sustainable food. It is our hope that more and more communities of faith will see the dirty, hands-on work of garden cultivation as a powerful form of faithful witness.

This course will run for 2 hours per Wednesday night beginning on February 29 and lasting through March 28, 2012. Soup and a sandwich are provided at 5:30, with the class starting at 6:00. Small donations for the food will be accepted but not necessary for attendance.

Creation Care 101 is a series of thought-provoking presentations and discussions about the call to care for God's great gift of creation. This series is designed to better equip us all to respond to God's call to ecological justice and creation care. Adapted from our partner Earth Covenant Ministry, the series includes up to five presentations offered over several weeks. This series is being hosted by Sandy Springs Christian Church.

Home Energy Audit Training Class - Saturday, March 10, 2012

This is a Home Energy Audit Training Class will teach participants about saving money and energy in their own homes. Recently, Monroe Utilities increased energy rates and we can be assured of further increases. You can be a leader in our community to lower energy usage and costs. Upon completion the participant will know how to save energy and money in their own homes. This 3 hour course will be held on March 10, 2012. Breakfast will start at 8:30, with the class starting at 9:00. Small donations for the food and an honorarium for GIPL will be accepted, but is not necessary for attendance.

Water Wise - Saturday, March 24, 2012

Life-giving water runs through the state of Georgia like images of water run through the Scriptures. This essential element of God�s creation graces Georgia from the highest heavens and mountainous headwaters to the creeks, streams, and rivers all the way to the ocean.

This course will discuss water in Georgia and what we can do to protect it. Upon completion each participant will have built their own rain barrel. Breakfast will start at 8:30, with the class starting at 9:00. Small donations for the food will be accepted, but is not necessary for attendance.

A fee of $40.00 for the barrel and hardware kit is required. Compared to obtaining a rain barrel at retail of $90.00 and more, this is an inexpensive way to get started.

Atlanta Friends Home Energy Audit Training Class - Saturday, April 21, 2012

This Home Energy Audit Training Class will be held at the Atlanta Friends Meeting. The course is free.

This class will teach community members how to care for Creation through energy efficiency in their own homes. No prior experience is required to attend this course.

This is a good opportunity for community members to learn about energy efficiency measures that can reduce their energy usage at home and help them save money on utility bills. Attendees will also learn about reducing their carbon footprints and becoming better stewards of creation.
