Angela Speir-Phelps gave an inspiring keynote address and call to action, and Antioch Baptist Church North was honored for their work in initiating the low-income light-bulb swap program that has now been done by several other congregations. And then the time came for the GIPPYs themselves, as we honored several congregations who have shown initiative and creativity in incorporating creation care into the life of their congregations.
And the winners are:

People of Faith, People of Action:
The Second Annual GIPL Awards!
The second Georgia Interfaith Power & Light awards (the GIPPYs) were awarded on October 18, 2007! We had a wonderful and inspiring keynote speaker in Dr. Michael Battle, president of the Interdenominational Theological Center, who spoke about that institutions commitment to Theo-Ecology and a move toward a new Eden.
We honored seven congregations and six individuals with GIPPYs this year. Our Congregation of the Year was the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. Northside United Methodist Church received the Power Award and All Souls Fellowship received the Light Award. Also honored were Antioch Baptist Church North, Decatur Presbyterian Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and Peachtree Baptist Church.
Individual honorees were Rabbi Frederick Reeves, Rev. Dr. Gerald Durley, Kat Stratton, Shane Totten, Dan May, and Renee Kastanakis. Please see the November 2007 Green Light for a full report on the evening and our honorees. Congratulations to all our GIPPY winners!

A Religious Response to Climate Change and The First Annual GIPL Awards!
The first Georgia Interfaith Power & Light awards (or "GIPPYs" as they are affectionately known), were a great success! We had a fabulous evening with inspiring messages from Rev. Sally Bingham, co-founder of Interfaith Power & Light, and Dr. Heidi Cullen, from the Weather Channel. We were pleased to honor four congregations with the first GIPPYs: Trinity Presbyterian Church received the Power award, Congregation Bet Haverim received the Light award, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta received the Trailblazer award, and St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church was recognized as our Congregation of the Year! Congratulations to all our winners!!
