Are You Wasting Energy & $$ on Your Organ?

Many churches find that they are expending a lot of energy and money in conditioning the air in their sanctuary even when no one is using it because they are under the misconception that their pipe organ must be kept at a constant temperature 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In fact, although an organ should be played at the same temperature at which it was tuned, in between times it can tolerate a fairly wide temperature range.

The American Institute of Organbuilders has put together a fact sheet detailing the temperature and humidity requirements for pipe organs. Check it out to see whether your congregation could be cooling or heating your organ unneccessarily. The single act of changing the temperature regime of your sanctuary could have a huge effect on your energy bill. Imagine how much carbon dioxide you could keep out of the air, and how much money you could save by not keeping your sanctuary at 65 degrees all day all summer long!
