METRIC TONS OF CARBON OFFSET ANNUALLY

GIPL is committed to advancing Georgia’s clean energy economy. Expanding access to solar energy is central to this work. GIPL helps faith communities and religious schools explore solar as a viable energy option to reduce operating costs and carbon emissions. Faith communities that install solar become models of energy independence for their neighborhoods and embody a commitment to being better stewards of Sacred Earth

Rooftop solar is one of the high-impact solutions identified by Drawdown GA. In addition to reducing a congregation's carbon impact, solar energy displaces fossil fuels, improving air quality and generating many environmental and public health benefits. Additionally, by producing their own energy, congregations reduce their reliance on the grid and hedge against rising energy rates.

Helping Faith Communities Go Solar!

GIPL actively pursues energy policies at the state and federal levels that ensure all communities have equal access to renewable energy choices such as solar power. The Inflation Reduction Act, which was signed into law in August 2022, is the most comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation in history. Through the IRA, nonprofits and houses of worship have easier access to clean energy funds and tax credits through a program called "direct pay." The "direct pay" option means that non-taxable entities can benefit from the 30 percent tax credit for solar panels, wind, batteries, and other climate solutions.

GEORGIA BRIGHT

Low-income earners, families of color, and senior citizens often spend more of their income on power and gas bills than other households. With inflation and the growing climate crisis, energy costs only continue to rise. That’s why Georgia Interfaith Power and Light is proud to be a partner of Georgia BRIGHT.

This program offers a solution, helping consumers save on energy bills through discount solar leasing. The first round of Georgia BRIGHT will install solar panels on the homes of 200 Georgia households making less than $100,000 a year. Federal funding, grants, and discount bulk purchase discounts will be leveraged to bring qualifying homes' power bills down. Individuals who qualify may apply for a free solar evaluation HERE today

SOLARIZE CAMPAIGNS

Solarize programs are community-led bulk-purchasing campaigns that make solar more affordable and accessible for all. Solarize campaigns allow a community to choose their installer, make an investment in a practical carbon solution, and save money by purchasing at the same time as the rest of their neighbors. These programs are perfect for individual homes, businesses, non-profits, and faith communities! This is by far the easiest and most cost-effective way to purchase solar in Georgia. Each campaign also donates a free solar installation to a community non-profit!
